ICC expands Women’s T20 World Cup to 16 teams in 2030

As part of its commitment to gender equality, the ICC Board has approved a 16-team Women’s T20 World Cup in 2030. In 2016, 10 teams competed in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, up from eight in 2009. The 2026 England tournament will include 12 teams before increasing to 16 in 2030. The Board also announced that the 2026 qualification cut-off date is 31 October 2024.

The Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC) also approved eight regional qualifying positions for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. With this new arrangement, two teams from Africa and Europe, one from the Americas, and three from a combined Asia and EAP regional final will qualify. Asia got two berths and EAP one. The October ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh raises excitement. The CEC also confirmed Paul Reiffel as the Elite Panel Umpire and Richie Richardson as the Elite Panel Referee on the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee.

All 108 ICC Members attended the ICC Board and Annual General Meeting in Colombo today, which concluded the Annual Conference. The four-day seminar, conducted days before the Paris 2024 Olympics, focused on “Capitalizing on the Olympic Opportunity” before cricket’s participation in the LA28 Games. USA Cricket and Cricket Chile were warned. Because of their inadequate governance and administrative structure and mechanisms, they have 12 months to meet ICC Membership Criteria.

Three directors—Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo, and Imran Khwaja—will assess the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and report back to the Board later in the year.
