IDAC investigations head kidnapped, assaulted in Joburg

Matthews Sesoko, head of Investigations and Operations at the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), was kidnapped on Friday evening.

Spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the attackers assaulted Sesoko and abandoned him near Rabie Ridge in Johannesburg on Saturday morning.

They took his cellphone and laptop.

NPA CONCERNED ABOUT TIMING OF INCIDENT

“He managed to received assistance and was taken to a nearby police station to report the matter. He is currently receiving the necessary medical attention, following his traumatic experience,” Mamothame said on Saturday.

Mamothame said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) was concerned by the timing of the incident.

He said while the NPA did not want to speculate about possible motives, Mamothame said the attack “reflects the possible dangers in this space.”

The incident is under police investigation.
