Intercape offers R550k reward for solid information on bus attacks

In a bid to put an end to the violent attacks on its buses, Intercape is now offering a large sum of money in exchange for information.

The bus company reported 130 incidents in just over a year

Intercape says that in the past 18 months, it has faced over 130 incidents of violence, intimidation and extortion. Staff and passengers have suffered at the hands of the attacks with Intercape bus driver Bangikhaya Machana dying in a shooting incident in April.

Many have alleged that the violent attacks on the buses are being carried out by taxi operators. The incidents more commonly occur in the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape.

Intercape emphasises that the information and sources of information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

The company also noted that perpetrators have reportedly insisted that they increase their fares and that Intercape pays large sums in extortion money in order to operate in specific areas.
