Corruption-accused director-general in the KZN premier’s office Nonhlanhla Mkhize has been granted bail of R25 000.

Mkhize was arrested earlier this week

Earlier this week, Mkhize and her co-accused were arrested for tender fraud amounting to R37 million. The group is accused of intimidation and defeating the ends of justice. Her three other co-accused will remain behind bars, reports EWN.

On Thursday, 1 September, the court heard closing arguments. The matter was then postponed to today for judgment. 

The DG spent almost a week behind bars

It was reported that Mkhize spent almost the entire week behind bars following her arrest.

The director-general is also facing charges in relation to a Hawks investigation into millions that were lost through irregular tender rewards. It is also alleged that she interfered with corruption investigations in connection with the uMhlathuze water procurement project in 2018.

KZN DG arrested for allegedly intimidating Mhlathuze Water Board chairperson

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that the Director General in the Office of the KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Nonhlanhla Mkhize, is reportedly arrested for intimidation. She allegedly intimidated the chairperson of the Mhlathuze Water Board who had flagged an irregular awarding of a service provider.

The chairperson of the Mhlathuze Water Board in KZN reported allegations of irregular appointment of a legal panel. This appointment was found to be done without following the supply chain management policies of the Water Board.

In addition, the appointment contravened section 51(1) of the Public Finance Management Act as the operational policies of the board were not complied with, Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Thandi Mbambo.

But after a probe of the alleged irregular appointment and the compilation of the forensic report, the Water Board’s chairperson allegedly received a visit.

An unknown person arrived at her home, claiming to be from the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). The person further claimed that they were sent by the senior manager in the Premier’s office, Mbambo said.
