Kaizer Chiefs are making room for a quality proven goal scorer as the club cleans the wage bill before signing what Nabi wants.

Kaizer Chiefs making room for a new proven forward – Latest

Kaizer Chiefs are entering into an important moment for the club. There will be a transition in their attacking department. This follows a season where their performances were not all good all the time, especially from several senior forwards. But the club is reportedly planning a complete change with regards to their striking force. One of the players that could move on is Ranga Chivaviro, whose stint at Naturena has failed to deliver the expected results.

Chivaviro’s chapter underwhelming

Chivaviro got to Kaizer Chiefs with high expectations following a great season at Marumo Gallants. Where he scored 17 goals in all competitions. But inconsistent performances tied with injuries put a limit to his contributions. He managed to score five goals in 22 appearances across all competitions. Here and there, he showed potential but struggled to start consistently under the club’s chopping and changing

With talks of a potential return to Gallants or other suitors in the Betway Premiership, it seems likely that his time at Chiefs will end after just two seasons.

Chiefs youth the future

The shift away from forwards who are slightly older and that are not producing will open the door to the talents that are emerging out of the development system. Promising strikers like Wandile Duba have shown great potential with limited minutes and may now have the opportunities to shine.

The high profile signing is needed but it shouldn’t be solely relied on. And the new youth restructuring aligns with the club’s vision for long term sustainability.

Targeting proven strikers to lead the line

While nurturing young talent is important, getting a proven forward is critical for their development too. Chiefs are actively scouting for an experienced consistent goal scorer, who can lead the line and take the pressure off the younger forwards. They are targeting players both locally and abroad, who can bring composure in front of goal. Something that was lacking during the 2024/2025 campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs have identified several targets to spearhead the attack.

Fiston Mayele

A familiar name for coach Nasreddine Nabi, Mayele shone under his leadership at Young Africans SC, where he bagged 54 goals in 50 appearances. Now with Pyramids FC in Egypt, his goal-scoring instincts and previous connection with Nabi make him a top target. However, Pyramids are reportedly asking for a high fee, which could complicate the deal. Orlando Pirates are also showing an interest in him.

Michael Olunga

The Kenyan international is one of the most prolific strikers currently active in Asia, scoring 74 goals in 73 matches for Al-Duhail SC in Qatar. While he would bring immediate pedigree to Chiefs’ front line, his high salary expectations could be a stumbling block for the club’s budget.

Jonathan Sowah

Currently playing in Libya for Al-Nasr Benghazi, Sowah has emerged as another top African talent on Chiefs’ radar. With international experience for Ghana and a reputation for clinical finishing, Sowah represents a viable option if the club wants a powerful, mobile forward suited to PSL intensity.

These are just three out of the many names linked to Kaizer Chiefs, but they are yet to take the leap and make it happen.
