Kaizer Chiefs players in final year of contracts face high stakes!

Kaizer Chiefs players in the final year of contracts face a high stakes showdown, according to Soccer Laduma.

As the 2024/2025 Premiership season kicks off, Kaizer Chiefs players in the final year of their contracts are feeling the pressure to perform and secure new deals. Amakhosi will start their campaign with an away match against Marumo Gallants, making this an important time for those looking to prove their worth.

Captain Yusuf Maart is in the final year of his contract with Kaizer Chiefs. The midfielder, who joined from Sekhukhune United on a three-year deal, has been pivotal in the team’s midfield. New head coach Nasreddine Nabi highly values Maart and envisions him fitting well into his tactical plans. Notably, Maart’s contract includes an option for extension, but securing a new deal will depend on his performance this season.

Versatile defender Reeve Frosler is another crucial player whose contract is up at the end of this season. Frosler, who previously played for Bidvest Wits, remains an important asset at Naturena. However, a decision on his future will likely be made later in the season based on his contributions and form.

Midfielder George Matlou and other contract situations

Midfielder George Matlou faces a pivotal season. Despite limited appearances, Chiefs exercised the option to extend his contract. Matlou understands that this could be his final chance to impress and secure a longer-term deal with the club.

Edmilson Dove and Ranga Chivaviro are also in their final contract year. This season will be crucial for them to showcase their abilities. Unfortunately for Dove, an ongoing injury may significantly impact his chances, potentially complicating his contract renewal.

Mfundo Vilakazi responds to criticism with confidence

In other news, Kaizer Chiefs’ young talent Mfundo Vilakazi has confidently addressed recent criticism. The 18-year-old midfielder faced backlash for perceived showboating during the team’s 4-0 loss to Young Africans in the Toyota Cup. Despite the online negativity, Vilakazi remains undeterred and focused on his performance.

Vilakazi took decisive action by deleting his social media apps to avoid the backlash. “I saw on social media people were criticising me, I [don’t] think it affected me, but I deleted all my social media [apps] because people were texting me on Instagram saying [via DM] I don’t deserve to play for Kaizer Chiefs,” said Vilakazi. He remains optimistic, stating, “The very same people who were criticising me will say Mfundo deserves to play for Barcelona or something, but because we lost against Yanga they are saying I don’t deserve to play for Kaizer Chiefs, people will always talk – whether you are doing good or bad.”

Vilakazi aims to shine in upcoming league games, showing his readiness with recent goals scored in friendly matches against Lesotho U20. His focus remains on contributing positively to the team.
