Kaizer Chiefs starlet shrugs off criticism as coach eyes transfers

Kaizer Chiefs and Amajita starlet Mfundo Vilakazi has confidently brushed off recent criticism directed at him. The 18-year-old midfielder faced backlash after what some perceived as showboating during the team’s 4-0 defeat against Young Africans in the Toyota Cup. Despite the online abuse, Vilakazi remains focused on proving his worth.

Vilakazi, one of Kaizer Chiefs’ most promising young talents, responded to the criticism by deleting his social media apps. “I saw on social media people were criticising me, I [don’t] think it affected me, but I deleted all my social media [apps] because people were texting me on Instagram saying [via DM] I don’t deserve to play for Kaizer Chiefs,” said Vilakazi as quoted by iDiski Times. He emphasised that he is not letting the negativity impact his performance. “The very same people who were criticising me will say Mfundo deserves to play for Barcelona or something, but because we lost against Yanga they are saying I don’t deserve to play for Kaizer Chiefs, people will always talk – whether you are doing good or bad.”

Vilakazi remains optimistic and determined, aiming to shine in the upcoming league games. “The league will resume in a couple of weeks’ time, and I will score [goals],” he asserts. His recent performances, including scoring in friendly matches against Lesotho U20, demonstrate his readiness to contribute positively to the team.

Nabi’s vision for Kaizer Chiefs and transfer window challenges

New Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has a clear vision for his squad. While the club has successfully signed key players such as goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, defenders Bongani Sam and Rushwin Dortley, and forward Gaston Sirino, Nabi’s full wish list remains unmet.

Nabi’s transfer wishlist and squad evaluation

Despite the current gaps in his squad, Nabi remains optimistic about his team’s prospects. “It’s a kind of mixed feelings for the coach right now,” a source reveals. “In the last meeting with management, he expressed his happiness with the current squad but still requested a left back and an additional striker.” Nabi specifically seeks a proven goal scorer to alleviate the pressure on his other strikers. “(Nabi wants) a proven goal scorer to help ease the pressure on the other strikers,” the source adds.

With the transfer window closing soon, Nabi faces uncertainty about finalizing his squad. “I think he will be disappointed if the window period closes without getting at least one more player,” the source notes. However, Nabi acknowledges the club’s efforts and remains satisfied with their attempts. “At times you don’t get everything you want, but the club has tried and continues trying,” the source concludes.
