The death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, which has been confirmed by the group Saturday, has created a “power vacuum” within Hezbollah and Lebanon, said David Wood, Senior Analyst at the International Crisis Group. Israeli forces may seize the opportunity to launch a ground operation in Lebanon which could come at a great cost to Israel, Wood said, adding that the most “sensible” course would be to “immediately push for a political settlement and end the dire humanitarian situation in Lebanon”.
