Rest in Peace: Orlando Pirates defender has died
Another young life has been sadly lost...
Orlando Pirates Football Club have announced the tragic passing of a young player’s life.
PIRATES PLAYER SETJHABA MOFOKENG DIES
According to the Buccaneers‘ statement, Setjhaba played for the club’s reserve team in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) and lost his life on Friday while he was registered with Wits in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on loan this season. “Orlando Pirates Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Setjhaba Mofokeng. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.
“Setjhaba, who was on loan at Wits at the time of his passing, was part of our 2023/24 DDC team. Rest in peace, Setjhaba,” Pirates concluded without revealing more information about his age and death. According to iDiskiTimes, he was a 19-year-old left-back. “The 19-year-old joined Pirates from Brits Soccer Academy in the North West Province in 2022 and initially played for the club’s U19 side. But last season, the left-back featured for the DStv Diski Challenge team before being loaned out to ABC Motsepe League side Wits FC this campaign,” the outlet added.
PIRATES’ THABISO SESANE TO FRANCE?
Pirates supporters should not be feeling too much surprise. Thabiso Sesane, who has been top quality in the heart of defence, has reportedly attracted interest from Ligue 1.
Following the 24-year-old 37 games for the Buccaneers since 2022, as well as his Bafana Bafana call-up, Soccer Laduma believes Ligue 1’s bottom-place Montpellier are interested in signing the Soweto-born central defender. “They are looking for a young but experienced defender and now with Pirates playing in the CAF Champions League it is actually good for Thabiso,” the source revealed.
“It’s good because he is gaining the valuable experience that Montpellier are looking for. It will work to his advantage. Also with call-ups to Bafana Bafana, soon he will start playing and things will go well for him.”
WOULD THIS BE A GOOD MOVE FOR THABISO SESANE?
