OFFICIAL: Orlando Pirates to release veteran midfielder!

According to reports, Orlando Pirates will release Miguel Timm, who has struggled to make it on the teamsheet this season, recording just three cup appearances.

The former Maritzburg maestro will become a free agent after June 30, with several PSL clubs expected to try lure the thirty-three-year-old. He was linked with Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu during the January transfer window.

Both will presumably try again in the offseason.

Riveiro leaves

Jose Riveiro, set to join Al Ahly, asked to leave Orlando Pirates prematurely following their Nedbank Cup final defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.

He made a speech after his last game in charge against Golden Arrows on Tuesday, saying,

“They took care of me since day one and still do. Now that I am leaving, they care about me. I am thankful person, so this is something that I really appreciate and I will never forget,” Riveiro said after the Golden Arrows game.

“I will never coach any other team in South Africa. I am a Buccaneer and Orlando Pirates is the only club I could have the motivation and courage, energy and heart to coach in South Africa.” ‘

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates are scouting AmaKhosi target Fiston Mayele:

“There has been contact [between Pirates and Mayele], and although nothing is concrete at this stage, there is a possibility,” an inside source revealed.

“Mayele’s camp is testing the waters and trying to see if Pirates are willing to make a concrete move to the PSL.”

“Given the current situation, both in terms of Pirates’ need for a proven striker and Mayele’s availability, this could be a very real transfer possibility.”

“It’s no secret that Pirates are in the market for a reliable goal-scorer, and after what Mayele did to them on the continental stage, it’s clear he could be that guy.”
