Pakistan, on Monday won the toss against England and decided to bat first in series opening first Test being played at Multan Cricket Stadium.
“We want to get things changed and get back on the right track,” said Pakistan captain Shan Masood at the toss, adding national side has gone with two spinners and three fast bowlers in the match.
Coming from a humiliating Test series whitewash against Bangladesh, the Shan Masood-led side will look for some redemption on the home ground as they have lost five Test matches in a row.
This is part of the three-match Test series that would be a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. Two opening matches are scheduled in Multan while the third opening match is scheduled from October 24 to 28 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
It is to be noted that England are being led by Ollie Pope in the first Test after the visitors’ captain Ben Stokes was ruled out of the contest due to a hamstring injury in the Hundred League.
Moreover, James Anderson won’t be traveling to Pakistan since he is taking part in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship of Scotland.
A day earlier, the national side announced their playing XI included three pacers besides mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed.
England’s coach Brendon McCullum has warned his side that emulating their 2022 success in Pakistan will be a tough ask amid the “rocketing” heat of Multan.
His remarks have come into the backdrop of the 3-0 victory of England in 2022 on the home soil of the Green Shirts. Firstly, the visitors had played 24 Tests in Pakistan, of which they won only two, making a clean sweep of 3-0 all the more surprising.
