Rand Water commences 37-day maintenance without major issues

Rand Water has successfully initiated its scheduled maintenance operations, encountering no significant obstacles so far. The utility completed its work on the Mogale City system smoothly.

Rand Water maintenance: Seamless start in Mogale City

The maintenance work, which began on Saturday, aims to enhance water supply reliability across various municipalities in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and North West. This annual campaign is strategically scheduled during the winter months to take advantage of lower water consumption compared to the summer.

Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo, providing an update on the project’s progress on Sunday, stated, ““Proactive infrastructure maintenance is important to preserve the quality and integrity of the infrastructure and to extend the lifespan of our assets.”

She confirmed that the initial phase in Mogale City was completed ahead of schedule, with normal water pumping operations unaffected since only one meter was impacted.

Moving forward to Eikenhof System

Following the successful completion in Mogale City, Rand Water will now focus on the Eikenhof system. The ongoing maintenance, set to conclude on 29 July, is part of an effort to address the erratic water supply issues in Gauteng, which have been partly attributed to aging infrastructure.

Rand Water has advised municipalities to inform their residents about the scope and impact of the maintenance on local water supplies. By proactively addressing these infrastructure challenges, the utility aims to stabilise and improve the water distribution network in the affected regions.
