PLAYER RATINGS FOR THE SPRINGBOKS VS AUSTRALIA
BOKS WHO FIRED
Siya Kolisi 8/10
Kolisi put in an inspirational display leading from the front as captain. His two early turnovers in the first half set the tone for an inspired and passionate display. Several powerful carries were followed up by a crucial dive to keep the ball in play early in the second half, resulting in a vital third try. He lead from the front, was a menace at the breakdown and carried the ball with the passion of the nation behind him.
Jasper Wiese 8/10
Wiese made it clear that he intends on making the bok number eight jersey his own. He made several strong carries off the base of the scrum and gave the Boks regular go-forward momentum. Wiese made several tackles and even more carries, carrying the ball over the advantage line at will. He has certainly bounced back from his poor showing against Wales earlier on in the year, staking a claim for the number eight jersey ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
Damian Willemse 7/10
Willemse continues to show his worth in this Bok side. Bringing some much-needed versatility and creativity in attack. His goal-kicking was below-par though, converting 1/3 attempts at goal. However, he made up for this in the manner he carried the ball and it showed with a slick offload to Lood de Jager in the first half. A couple of poorly aimed kicks interfered with an otherwise solid performance at 10/

BOKS WHO UNDERPERFORMED:
It must be noted that no Bok put in a poor showing in their historic victory over the Aussies. However, a couple of players did not reach the potential we know that they are capable of.*
Malcolm Marx – 6.5/10
A couple of lineout throw-ins were not straight and he did not win as many turnovers as we have grown accustomed to. He was solid off every carry but the Wallabies countered our rolling maul quite efficiently throughout the contest. However, there is no doubt that Marx is a serious contender for the starting hooker birth moving forward, the Boks are a different side when he starts.
Damian De Allende – 6/10
De Allende made some poor decisions at inside centre. First, he kicked away possession in what was a seemingly simple move that should have gone through the hands in the first half. Then, he made an uncharacteristic knock-on after gathering the ball from a goal-line drop-out. Gifting Australia 40m for free. Besides that, he carries strongly and knew when to go wide, showing slick hands in the Bok’s third try which was crucially scored by Franco Mostert at the start of the second half.
