A runaway suspect was nabbed in possession of two illegal firearms, narcotics and a hijacked vehicle this evening, Friday, 9 September.

JMPD APPREHENDS DANGEROUS RUNAWAY SUSPECT

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed the success.

“A male suspect was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit in possession of two unlicensed firearms, a hijacked motor vehicle and narcotics. On Friday 09 September 2022, whilst on patrol at K43 and Fouche Street, Klipspruit West officers spotted and stopped a white Isuzu KB 250 with two male occupants,” he said.

Fihla said as the vehicle was approached the driver got out and ran away.

“The passenger was apprehended, and upon searching him officers found a firearm and two and a half tablets of narcotics (mandrax).”

As the vehicle was searched a second firearm was recovered.

VEHICLE FOUND TO HAVE BEEN HIJACKED

Fihla added that an enquiry was conducted by the officers and it was found that the vehicle was hijacked from the owner and was sought as per the Jabulani SAPS case.

“The suspect was arrested and detained at Kliptown SAPS. The hijacked vehicle was seized and booked in at the SAPS Lenasia pound for verification,” he explained.

MORE FIREARM AND HIJACKING-RELATED ARRESTS

Meanwhile, on 5 September, JMPD recovered a firearm from another runaway suspects in Honeydew.

According to the JMPD report, the illegal firearm was recovered by JMPD Region C Operations officers. Whilst on patrol in the Honeydew Policing Precinct officers came across males travelling on foot. Officers stopped next to them and they immediately ran away dropping the firearm whilst fleeing.

Last Friday, 2 September, a 28-year-old male was arrested by the JMPD K9 Unit in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle in Dube, Soweto. The hijacked vehicle, a white Hyundai H100 courier vehicle was hijacked in Orlando transporting various goods for different companies.
