SA’s Margaret Gardiner shares update amid raging LA fires concern

Former Miss South Africa and Miss Universe Margaret Gardiner has shared an update about her home safety amid the Los Angeles (LA) fires, which are predicted to rage on amid strong winds.

The former beauty queen is one of many local stars whose Californian homes have been impacted by the disaster.

Earlier this week, Margaret revealed that she had packed up her home in the event of an emergency evacuation.

According to authorities, 25 people have died in the fires, and thousands have been left displaced after their homes in Eaton and the Pacific Palisades were destroyed.  The fires continue in multiple areas in the region.

MARGARET GARDINER SHARES LA FIRES UPDATE

In a Facebook post, Margaret Gardiner – who moved from South Africa to California – revealed an update about the LA fires.

She posted: “The sky is blue. The air is clear. My suitcases remain packed, but I believe that we are safe. The fire department did an amazing job preventing the fire from cresting the ridge.

She added: “There have been no flare-ups in my area. I have faith. This part, for me, may be over. I know that I am the lucky one. My prayers go out to those still reeling from the devastation. I thank you for your thoughts, wishes, and prayers. I am so thankful for your kindness”.

Apart from Margaret Gardiner, other South Africans have been impacted by the LA fires.

This includes former Egoli actress Christel Smith, whose Pacific Palisades home was burned to ashes.  Like Margaret, actor Greg Kriek and filmmaker Jann Turner – both of Cape Town – were on standby to evacuate their homes, reported TV With Thinus.

STRONG WINDS SPARK CONCERNS

Meanwhile, authorities are warning that “dangerous winds” could spark new wildfires. According to the US National Weather Service, another gust of Santa Ana winds could spread the LA fires to northwest upmarket areas like Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.

LA County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said in a press conference: “The anticipated winds combined with low humidities and low fuel moistures will keep the fire threat in the LA region critical.
