Just days after 11 people died in a horrific crash on the R102 in iSipingo, another fatal accident has claimed the lives of six people, including a child, on the N2 in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

The crash occurred on Friday night, 30 January, under the uMtubatuba Local Municipality.

SIX FAMILY MEMBERS KILLED IN N2 CRASH IN KZN

According to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport, a Corsa collided with a tipper truck in the Manandi area along the N2, resulting in the deaths of five members of the same family.

Two other people were seriously injured and rushed to hospital. Sadly, one of the two, a child, succumbed to her injuries.

KZN Transport MEC Siboniso Duma said preliminary reports from the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) confirmed the severity of the crash.

Department spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya conveyed condolences to the affected families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED AS TEAMS ASSIST FAMILY

Duma said RTI teams worked alongside disaster management officials from the uMtubatuba Local Municipality to clear the scene and speed up recovery efforts.

“An investigation into this accident will be launched in collaboration with the Road Traffic Management Corporation and the South African Police Service,” Duma said.

He added that officials from his office, accompanied by religious leaders from the department, will visit the bereaved family over the weekend to offer support and assist with funeral arrangements.

The MEC also thanked local councillor Prosper Gumbi from the uMfolozi Local Municipality, as well as community members, for supporting the family during the difficult time.
