South Africans on social media have been gripped by a viral video that allegedly shows a hijacker clinging to a speeding truck after a failed attempt at taking the vehicle.

The University of Pretoria has confirmed the death of a student who was gunned down in the early hours of Saturday morning in Hatfield, close to the Tuksdorp residence.

The co-owner of a popular restaurant in the Cape Town Municipality was horrifically murdered last week after he travelled to Philippi to deliver a TV he sold on Facebook Marketplace. The incident has prompted SAPS to issue a warning to sellers using the domain.

Eskom announced that Stage 4 load shedding would be implemented from Tuesday morning, 13 September, until Thursday morning because three power-generating units suddenly tripped.

And lastly, a four-year-old girl died after she touched a fence of a house with an alleged illegal connection in Gqerbha.

South Africans on social media have been gripped by a viral video that allegedly shows a hijacker clinging to a speeding truck after a failed attempt at taking the vehicle.

The 16-second clip, which contains strong language, was posted by a popular trucker page – SA Trucker – on Facebook and Twitter. It was also repurposed by other accounts with sizeable followings.

In the clip, the driver records the man who has an iron grip on the truck mirror and is being buffeted by the wind as the vehicle picks up speed.

Four-year-old girl dies after touching an electric fence in street

 four-year-old girl died after she touched a fence of a house with an alleged illegal connection in Gqerbha. 

According to police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge the little girl, Qhamani Mange, was electrocuted when she touched a fence at the Vukani shack area in NU9, Motherwell.

“It is alleged that at about 11:30 on Monday, she was walking to a nearby shop when she touched a wire fence of one of the houses in the street. 

 “It is suspected that an illegal connection at that house was in contact with the fence. 

“Unfortunately, little Qhamani Mange paid with her life after touching the fence.”

Eskom implements Stage 4 load shedding after more units trip – schedules here

Eskom announced that Stage 4 load shedding would be implemented from Tuesday morning, 13 September until Thursday morning because three power generating units suddenly tripped.

Eskom said the tripped units were at Kendal Power Station in Mpumalanga and 1920MW of “maximum generating capacity” was lost. The worsened power cuts will start at 10:00 and Tuesday and hopefully, come to an end – as scheduled – on Thursday at 5:00.

SAPS issue Facebook Marketplace warning, following grisly murder

The co-owner of a popular restaurant in the Cape Town Municipality was horrifically murdered last week, after he travelled to Philippi to deliver a TV he sold on Facebook Marketplace. The incident has prompted SAPS to issue a warning to sellers using the domain.

On Tuesday, detectives confirmed that they had arrested three suspects for the murder of Ben Tuzee. The 51-year-old, who ran Dixie’s Bar and Restaurant in Simon’s Town, was targeted in a vicious hijacking. One of those detained is only aged 16.

WATCH: Student gunned down ‘over a cellphone’ in Hatfield

The University of Pretoria has confirmed the death of a student who was gunned down in the early hours of Saturday morning in Hatfield, close to the Tuksdorp residence.

According to comments on CCTV footage that has since gone viral on social media, the student was gunned down over a cellphone. 

Rikus Delport from the University of Pretoria told The South African that according to CCTV footage, the student, who was not staying at a UP residence, was walking down Grosvenor Street when he was approached by a man, who shot him after a brief altercation.
