Widespread rainfall expected across the Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape will experience widespread rainfall, strong winds, and cooler temperatures due to the impact of a cold front.

Widespread rainfall expected across the Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape remains one of the most affected regions, with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms, particularly in interior areas. Rainfall is expected to become widespread, stretching towards the central parts of the province.

“We are talking up to an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms as we move towards the interior of the Eastern Cape,” said Mpho Rasimphi.

Severe weather warnings are in place for Eastern Cape

Parts of the Eastern Cape fall under a Level 5 warning for severe thunderstorms, indicating a high risk of flooding due to persistent rainfall. This warning also extends into parts of the Free State and Northern Cape.

“Remember, significant impact is expected over that interior because of persistent rainfall,” Rasimphi said. “Flooding is possible.”

Cooler and windy conditions expected

A cold front moving along the southern coastline will bring cooler and windy conditions. East London is expected to experience gusty winds and a maximum temperature of 23°C.

“It is going to be a windy day, especially over coastal areas stretching into East London,” Rasimphi added.
