Windy and cold coastal conditions expected in KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal residents should prepare for a cold night, isolated rain and strong winds as a coastal weather system pushes moisture inland.

Windy and cold coastal conditions expected in KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal will face breezy and cold conditions as a coastal weather system brings moisture onshore. Durban and surrounding areas will experience temperatures as low as 11°C overnight.

Forecaster Mpho Rasimphi confirmed that “it is going to be a cold night over Durban, with windy conditions expected along most coastal areas.”

Scattered showers across KwaZulu-Natal

A 60% chance of isolated showers will affect the province as the inland rainfall band extends toward KwaZulu-Natal. Showers are anticipated from Durban through Pietermaritzburg and further north into Richards Bay.

Rasimphi explained that rainfall will be “isolated but persistent as moisture pushes inland from the coast,” bringing cooler daytime conditions with limited sunshine.

Temperatures to rise slightly tomorrow

Despite the evening chill, daytime temperatures will rise modestly tomorrow. Durban will reach a mild high of around 23°C, while Pietermaritzburg will warm slightly more. Northern KZN may experience warmer peaks, especially around Vryheid and Newcastle.

However, the forecaster said that “winds will continue tomorrow, keeping the air cool and limiting significant warming despite clearer skies.”

As cooler, windy conditions persist along KZN’s coast, how prepared are you for fluctuating temperatures this week?
