An 8-hour power outage is set to affect 24 areas in Johannesburg on Saturday, 22 March 2025, and Tuesday, 25 March 2025, in two different suburbs.

An 8-hour planned power interruption by City Power Johannesburg is set to affect 24 areas in the city. The power outage will occur on Saturday, 22 March 2025 from 8:00 to 16:00 and on Tuesday, 25 March 2025 from 8:00 to 16:00. 

OUTAGE REASON

City Power Johannesburg stated that the interruption was necessary for maintenance work that needs to be done on their electricity network to better improve their service provision. 

Customers are also encouraged to treat their electricity supply points as live.

“As the supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live,” said City Power Johannesburg.

On Saturday, 22 March 2025 from 8:00 to 16:00, the power interruption will occur in these six areas

  • Selwyn
  • Discovery
  • Florida Park
  • Flora Cliff
  • Flora Hills
  • Flora Clinic

On Saturday, 22 March 2025 from 8:00 to 16:00, the power interruption will occur in these eight areas

  • Showground
  • Adcock Igram
  • Tiger Moth
  • Samuel Evans
  • Lakeview
  • Short Street
  • Booysans 
  • Ophirton

On Tuesday, 25 March 2025 from 8:00 to 16:00, the power interruption will occur in these 10 areas

  • Bushkoppies Water Works
  • Bushkoppies Residing Area
  • Eldos Ext. 1 and 3
  • Olifantsfontein Water Works
  • Klipspruit West Ext.2 
  • Old Eldos
  • Nancefield Industrial
  • Kliptown West Ext.2
  • Joburg Water
  • Coca Cola 

“During an outage, unplug all appliances to prevent inrush current when power supply is restored. This minimises the risk of network disruptions and ensures continuous electricity supply,” said City Power. 

SELBY SUBSTATION SUBURBS FACING ACTIVE OUTAGE

More than six suburbs served by the Selby Substation are currently experiencing a power outage. The areas affected are City and Suburban, Jewel City, Marshalltown, Marshalltown Extension 1, Selby, Salisbury Claims, Wemmer and surrounding areas. 

The power outage was caused by an incident of smoke emerging from the tunnels yesterday 18 March 2025. The team (City Power Johannesburg) will assess the situation after the Emergency Management Services (EMS) hand over the site to City Power operators.
