Ex-Kaizer Chiefs slayer backs Mbokazi to thrive at Chicago Fire
Mbokazi will have to wait a month to get his MLS debut as Chicago Fire play their opening match against Houston Dynamo on 22 February.
Former SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town star Diphetogo “Dipsy” Selolwane has backed Mbekezeli Mbokazi to succeed at Chicago Fire.
The 20-year-old defender joined Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit from Orlando Pirates after just 10 months with the Buccaneers.
Selolwane, who played for Chicago Fire between 2002 and 2005, said the league was more physical and “TLB” Mbokazi should be prepared to face tough players in the US
“If you look at what he’s been doing, being able to go toe to toe with Africa’s best players, it tells you he’s at that level,” the retired midfielder told Soccer Beat.
“MLS is a very physical league. You look at how athletically built the players are; they are strong in tackles, and they are strong in headers.”
Mbokazi should expect tough battle at Chicago Fire
The ex-SuperSport United star said the Bafana Bafana will have a successful spell in the MLS and ultimately secure a big move.
“I think he will be up for the task and he’ll soon become one of the stars, and even a bigger club will come and sign him,” Selolwane added.
The former Botswana international played eight years in the PSL and was known for his grass cutters and work rate. He also developed a habit of scoring against Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.
