‘House of Zwide’ and ‘DiepCity’ clean up at the SAFTAs 2022

‘SCANDAL!’, ‘DIEPCITY’, HOUSE OF ZWIDE’ AWARDS
E.tv’s House of Zwide received four Craft Awards on the first night of the 16th annual SAFTAs (South African Film Television Awards) on Friday, 2 September while Black Brain Pictures’ telenovela DiepCity received five awards.
The first night of the event, titled Craft Awards was hosted by former Generations: The Legacy actress Candice Modiselle and TV personality Smash Afrika on Friday, 2 September on YouTube. The main SAFTAs event was held on Saturday, 3 September on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) and S3 (Channel 193).
Mzansi Magic’s DiepCity scored Best Achievement in Art Direction, Best Achievement in Directing, Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Telenovela, and Most Popular TV Soap/Telenovela.
Fan-favourite telenovela House of Zwide received awards for Best Achievement in a TV Soap/Telenovela, Best Achievement in Sound, Best Achievement in Editing, and Best Achievement in Cinematography.
E.tv’s Scandal! also scooped four awards, Best Actor in a TV Soap by Thabo Malema for his portrayal of Bohang, Natasha Sutherland won Best Supporting Actress, Jerry Mofokeng Wa Makhetha won Best Supporting Actor and the soapie won Best Achievement in Scriptwriting.

OTHER SAFTAS
Showmax walked away with 17 awards from shows such as Tali’s Baby Diary, The Wife and TV Drama, DAM, and so many more.
On-screen brothers from The Wife, Mqhele Zulu and Nqoba Zulu, played by Bonko Khoza and Abdul Khoza, won for “Best Actor in a Telenovela” and Best Supporting Actor in Telenovela” respectively.
The public had their say in the coveted Public Vote categories where Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo was voted as the “Best TV Presenter” for her stellar performance as the host of Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices.
Netflix walked away with seven awards for two feature films, I Am All Girls and Angelina, and their hit TV comedy How To Ruin Christmas season two.
The SABC received nine awards for the Taste Masters SA, which won Best Competition Reality Show, The Braai Show with Cassper for Best Variety Show.
Popular actress Manaka Ranaka won Best Actress in a TV Soap for Generations: The Legacy as Lucy Diale.
S3’s acclaimed documentary Murder In Paris won the Best Achievement in Sound Documentary, while SABC 2’s Musiek Roulette received Best Entertainment Programme.
