Ronaldo returned to Man United at the start of last season, and by his standards, he had an average season, scoring only 18 goals in 30 competitive matches.

This season, Ronaldo has netted just once for Erik Ten Haag’s side but that’s because of his lack of game time at Man United.

For Ronaldo fans, his nomination in the 30-man list was everything, especially because Lionel Messi of PSG didn’t even make the list.

The two attackers – Ronaldo and Messi – dominated the Ballon d’Or for years between 2008 and 2017 until the latter raced through with his sixth and seventh in 2019 and 2021 respectively.

Ronaldo has five Ballon d’Or awards to his name won in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017. He won the first of the five while playing for Man United. He won the other four while on the books of Real Madrid.
Messi, on the other hand, won all his seven Ballon d’Or for his performances and goals with Barcelona although he had already joined PSG when he won in 2021.
