Mashego explains why Sundowns need a strong Chiefs and Pirates

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Terrence Mashego has explained why a strong Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates can make the Brazilians better.

The 28-year-old left-back has struggled for game time this season only featuring once in the league. Masandawana have dominated the Betway Premiership for the past seven years but things appear to be shifting. Orlando Pirates currently top the log by three points after seven matches played.

Mashego insists a stronger Pirates and Chiefs side will be good for Sundowns.

“I always say it’s always like that each and every season,” Mashego told iDiski Times.

“Teams have missions, they have goals, so they always believe that they will do better than us but like I said before it’s pressure on our side, but pressure is good for Sundowns.

“But to also see Orlando Pirates doing well and to see them in the CAF Champions League, it’s good for South African football. Also, for Kaizer Chiefs you see that they are doing well,” he said.

“It’s also good for South African football. It’s always good for us when we have competition because now, we know that we are playing competitive games in the domestic league. That will also help us in the CAF Champions League. For me it’s encouraging to see the teams doing well.”

Sundowns have already played Chiefs twice this season but are yet to test themselves against Pirates. In their recent encounter with Amakhosi, the Brazilians won 4-0 which once again proved their dominance against their rivals.
