Mokoena mishap: Bafana Bafana to have crucial points revoked?
Bafana Bafana are in a spot of bother following their international break. Lesotho are livid, do they have a case?

The sun is shining on Bafana Bafana, who maintained their hundred-percent record in 2025 after victory over Benin, igniting what could be a prosperous year for Hugo Broos.
It’s been fifteen years since South Africa took to the world stage, a time when Siphwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker took orders from Pitso Mosimane.
World Cup qualification has been an enigma throughout Bafana’s history, who have only managed three appearances on the game’s biggest stage, but they’re now taking destiny into their own hands, sitting top of Group C, five points clear of the next best Rwanda and Benin.
Possible sanctions incoming?
During Friday’s match against Lesotho, Bafana Bafana fielded Sundown’s maestro Teboho Mokoena. The 28-year-old was serving a one-match ban following an accumulation of yellow cards but made the starting eleven. Neither the coach nor the officials registered his ban. Lesotho, who are demanding that they be awarded the three points, and Nigeria, have since put in an official complaint.
Lesotho Football Association secretary-general Mokhosi Mohapi told Sowetanlive, “The question is, was a rule broken? If yes, we are fully entitled to protest and get the points. We were made aware of Mokoena’s bookings, and we have since sent a formal inquiry to CAF and Fifa,
“We have heard that Nigeria also want to protest, and they too are entitled to that because the result (last Friday) prejudices everyone. Suppose it was us who fielded a defaulter and got the points, Bafana would have done the same.
“If players or team officials receive two cautions in one match, or in two different matches of the competition, they will be automatically suspended from their team’s subsequent match.”
Will Bafana Bafana qualify?
