Nasir Jamshed Apologises for 2017 Spot-Fixing

Nasir Jamshed has already offered an apology to the global cricket fans over his role in the 2017 spot-fixing scandal. The former Pakistan top-order batter even confessed to bribery and corruption involving T20 matches, one of them being a Pakistan Super League (PSL) game.

The apology of Jamshed appears in his first interview since his arrest and conviction in Birmingham in February 2017, in the anti-corruption unit of the National Crime Agency. He also showed the personal touch of how he influenced his actions, that he had even thought of suicide when in prison.

Found guilty at the Manchester Crown Court in February 2020, Jamshed served 17 weeks in prison and was banned permanently (10 years) on all types of cricket. He was ashamed and regretted about it in an interview in his home near Birmingham, where he said, I apologise to the people of Pakistan and to all cricket lovers in the world. I am ashamed. It was entirely wrong that was what I did.

He encouraged youthful cricketers not to be corrupt citing that it ruins lives. Take to heart what I have done, Jamshed. It is too much of suffering in it. He even shared the part played by his family in his survival. His emotional support came in the form of his wife, Dr. Samara, and their daughter, Haniya, who offered him emotional support which kept him alive even at his darkest point.

In perspective, Jamshed has asked the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Mohsin Naqvi to consider lifting his ban that will expire next year. He pointed out that he has already spent nine years of his suspension and he is willing to apologize.
