R350 recipients told to contact SASSA – if they receive this SMS

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has warned COVID-19 R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant recipients about an SMS issue.

What is the issue SASSA is warning recipients about?

SASSA says clients who receive an SMS that indicate their mobile number has changed, but have not initiated the change, are urged to report the matter to SASSA. Clients are informed to click on the link in the SMS.

A phone number can also be called to report the matter

If the client is unable to click the link, SASSA also encourages them to call 0800 60 10 11.

SASSA says the constant changes in bank details may delay payments. Over the past week, many applicants used social media to express how they felt about having their grant applications denied or experiencing delayed payments.

SASSA stated, among other reasons, that constantly changing bank details on the SRD website is a cause for the payment delays. The agency explained that every time bank details are changed, the beneficiary will have to be verified – causing the delay. Read the full story here.
