Nick Kyrgios defeated Daniil Medvedev in the US Open fourth round and that result guarantees that we will have a new World No.1 at the end of 2022’s final Grand Slam event.

Medvedev said after the defeat that Kyrgios is on the same level as Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Rafael Nadal will reclaim the World No.1 ranking if:

  • He reaches the US Open final, regardless of how others perform.
  • He loses in the QFs or SFs and Casper Ruud & Carlos Alcaraz don’t win the title.
  • He loses to Frances Tiafoe in the round of 16 and both Ruud & Alcaraz don’t reach the final.

Legendary Spaniard Rafael Nadal, already the winner of two majors this year, looks odds-on to climb back to the top of the mountain. He faces USA star Tiafoe at 19:15 (CAT) on Monday evening.
