ZANU-PF says the arrest of Robert Mugabe’s son over a Hyde Park shooting of a gardener is a private matter and awaits SA police statement.

ZANU-PF calls Mugabe’s son arrest a private matter

Zimbabwe’s ruling party, ZANU-PF, says it will wait for an official statement from South African authorities following the arrest of the late Robert Mugabe’s son in Johannesburg.

Party spokesperson Farai Marapira described the incident as a private matter involving a private citizen and reaffirmed the party’s stance on the rule of law.

ZANU-PF says stance on rule of law remains unchanged

The party does not flip flop on its stance. President M made it clear that we have zero tolerance for impunity or anything that may undermine the law. We have full belief and trust in the South African legal system and the police to conduct a thorough investigation. It is premature to comment before police issue an official statement. We will wait for the investigation to conclude so we can understand exactly what happened.”

Arrests follow Hyde Park shooting at Mugabe’s home

Police arrested Mugabe’s son and another man, aged 28 and 33, on Thursday at the Hyde Park property.

Officers questioned the pair as part of an attempted murder investigation after a 23-year-old employee was shot on the premises.

Private security alerted police shortly after the incident. Reports identified the victim as a 23-year-old gardener employed at the residence.

Preliminary findings suggest that an alleged labour dispute may have preceded the shooting.

Police recovered a cartridge at the scene but have not yet confirmed the number of shots fired.

The shooting left the gardener critically injured, and emergency services transported him to hospital, where he remains under medical care.

Police will bring the suspects before the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Monday on attempted murder charges.
