Orlando Pirates rumours: Saleng, Basadien, Benni McCarthy

Today’s Orlando Pirates transfer wrap looks at the future of several key stars including the much-talked-about Monnapule Saleng.

Basadien to replace ageing Maela?

According to Soccer Laduma, the Sea Robbers are willing to offer Innocent Maela or Paseka Mako plus cash to sign Stellies’ in-demand left-back Fawaaz Basadien. The 28-year-old has been a mainstay down that flank for the Winelands club, and his form has seen him earn national team recognition. He has two goals and two assists from 10 Betway Prem appearances this term, a stellar output for a full-back. He’s also got four goal involvements in seven CAF Confederation Cup outings. In MTN8 action, Basadien has two goals and an assist this term.

Saleng is mysteriously absent for Orlando Pirates

“The winger was also omitted from the matchday squad against Stade d’Abidjan last week, with coach Jose Riveiro citing player availability as a sensitive topic.”

“Let’s respect the club when they say it’s a sensitive topic,” an insider revealed. “There are no plans to release the player. He’s part of the team’s plans and continues to give his best when available. Whatever the situation is, let’s hope it resolves soon so he can continue excelling for the team.”
