Relehobile Mofokeng in demand as three major clubs circle!
Orlando Pirates' sensation Relehobile Mofokeng is attracting serious foreign interest at 20-years-old.
Orlando Pirates’ have uncovered a gem in Sharpeville-native Relehobile Mofokeng.
The 20-year-old, deemed too small by Kaizer Chiefs, has been a joy to watch this season, scoring seven – including that last-minute goal in the MTN8 final against Stellenbosch – and assisting nine times, amounting to sixteen goals and assists in twenty-four games.
Mofokeng’s rise to stardom hasn’t gone unnoticed. Several giants of the game, including Barcelona FC, Egypt’s Al Ahly, and Glasgow Rangers, are monitoring the skilful winger.
Will Mofokeng move?
It appears the Bafana youngster is loving life under Orlando Pirates’ Jose Riveiro, meaning a move in the January transfer window is out of the question, especially as the Buccanneers continue to challenge for the title.
However, with the Spanish boss rumoured to be leaving Soweto at the end of the season, Mofokeng could follow suit as Europe comes calling.
The winger’s former mentor, Mandla Qhogi, believes it’s time to flock South Africa’s shores, saying, “For me, it will be a good time for him to go overseas.”
He then followed up by mentioning that “It is the right time and there are things that he would learn if he were to move now at this stage of his career. The more we keep him this side it could mean that we are delaying him. He is 20, and I think it is the right time for him to move if he has to be sold overseas.”
So, while a move overseas isn’t confirmed, it seems likely that he will be on the move within the next two years, but for now, Mofokeng’s mind will be set on bringing the PSL trophy back to Soweto.
